Hurst Review is the content-heavy alternative to question-bank-first NCLEX prep. It's strong if you have content gaps and weak if you don't. Here's the breakdown.
What Hurst is
A content review program built around lecture-based teaching of NCLEX-relevant nursing content. Available as live courses (in-person and online) and self-paced. Includes some practice questions but the question bank is not the focus.
What Hurst does well
Content review depth. For students who have content gaps from school, didn't really learn cardiac, blanked on pharm, Hurst's teaching rebuilds the foundation.
Live course option. Like Kaplan, Hurst offers live instructor-led courses. Useful for students who need accountability and the structure of attending sessions.
Review manual. Hurst's manual is dense and high-yield. Useful as a reference even after the course ends.
What Hurst doesn't do
Question volume. Hurst's question bank is small compared to UWorld, Kaplan, or Archer. You'll need to pair Hurst with another source for adequate question practice.
Adaptive predictors. Hurst doesn't have the validated readiness predictors UWorld SA or Kaplan QT offer. The pre/post tests are content checks, not pass probability estimates.
NGN-specific practice. Hurst's NGN coverage exists but isn't the strongest in the category.
Who should pay for Hurst
Students who failed the NCLEX once and have a CPR showing content gaps in multiple categories.
Students who took a break from school and need a structured content rebuild before they can do question practice productively.
Students who prefer lecture-based learning over self-paced reading.
Who shouldn't bother
Students with strong content baseline who need question practice and pattern analysis. UWorld, Archer, or NR are better fits.
Students on tight 4-6 week timelines, Hurst's program assumes longer runway.
Cost
Hurst's premium courses sit in the higher end of the price ladder, especially the live tiers. The online review is more accessible. Watch for educational institution discounts if your program has a Hurst partnership.
