I'm getting 60% on practice questions, am I ready?
What practice-question accuracy actually predicts NCLEX readiness, and why 60% on UWorld is different from 60% on Saunders.
The most-asked question in NCLEX Reddit. The answer isn't a single number, it depends on the bank, the question type, and the trajectory.
What 60% means on each major bank
UWorld, 60% sustained over 1,500+ questions is borderline-ready. UWorld questions skew harder than the NCLEX, so 60% there roughly corresponds to 65-70% on the real exam.
Kaplan QT5/QT6, 60% is below passing. Kaplan targets ~65% as the readiness threshold.
Saunders/NCLEX-RN Q&A, 60% is well below passing. Saunders questions skew easier, so 60% there corresponds to ~55% on the real exam.
Archer, 60% is borderline; Archer maps more closely to real NCLEX difficulty than UWorld or Saunders.
Trajectory matters more than snapshot
60% over your last 200 questions when you started at 50% three weeks ago: good trajectory, on track. 60% sustained over 1,000+ questions with no movement: plateau, change something.
Mocks predict better than question-bank averages
Full mocks (75-145 questions under exam conditions) correlate with NCLEX outcome much more strongly than your overall question-bank percentage. A 65%+ on a UWorld Self-Assessment or 92%+ predicted pass on ATI is a much better readiness signal than a 60% running average.
When to schedule the exam from 60%
If you're at 60% with a consistent upward trajectory and 2+ weeks of runway: schedule for 3 weeks out. If you're plateaued at 60% with no movement in 2 weeks: address the plateau before scheduling, change banks, do a tutoring session, increase NGN practice.
Frequently asked
Is there a magic readiness percentage?
Not a single number. UWorld 'High' on a Self-Assessment, Kaplan 65%+ on QT5/6, ATI 92%+ predicted pass, Archer 'Very High' Readiness, any two of those is a real signal.
What if my score keeps dropping?
Burnout or over-study. Take 2 days off completely. Resume with mixed-topic questions. If the drop persists, your earlier scores were over-fit to a bank or a topic streak.
