The last 7 days before the NCLEX

Day-by-day: what to do, what to skip, when to stop studying, and how to walk in sharp instead of fried.

The last week is not the time for new content. It's the time to protect your existing knowledge, your sleep, and your execution. Here's how the seven days should actually look.

Days 7-5: targeted review

Day 7: One mock under exam conditions, then review every wrong answer. Note your three weakest categories.

Days 6-5: 60-75 questions each day, weighted heavy toward your three weakest categories. Mistake bank re-do at the end of each session.

Days 4-3: taper and pattern review

Day 4: 40 mixed questions. 20 minutes on pharm high-alerts (insulin, heparin, warfarin, digoxin, KCl, magnesium, opioids).

Day 3: 30 mixed questions. 15 minutes on management of care patterns (delegation, prioritization).

Day 2: logistics

Max 20 review questions in the morning. Then logistics: print ATT, two valid IDs ready (same name as ATT), confirm test center address, plan transit. If the center is more than 45 minutes away, consider a hotel the night before, sleep matters more than the hotel cost.

Day 1: rest

No questions. Walk. Eat the meals you normally eat. Hydrate. Bed by 10pm. If you can't sleep, lie still with eyes closed, passive rest still helps.

Day 0: execute

Light protein breakfast, eggs, oatmeal, whatever you normally eat. No new caffeine dose. Arrive 30 min early. Pearson VUE intake is 15-25 min (palm vein scan, photo, locker). Use the legal 10-min break around question 30-40. Drink water, walk to the bathroom, reset.

Frequently asked

Should I study the morning of?

No. Anything you 'learn' that morning won't be in working memory. The opportunity cost is real, cognitive fatigue from a long study session.

Can I bring food?

Pearson VUE provides a locker. Bring a snack and water for the break. Phones are not allowed in the testing room but can stay in the locker.
