The 'Pearson trick' for NCLEX: does it work?
The Reddit-famous 'Pearson trick' for getting early NCLEX results. Whether it's real, whether it works in 2026, and why students keep doing it anyway.
The 'Pearson trick' (also called the PVT) is a method of attempting to re-register for the NCLEX in your Pearson VUE account. If the system blocks you with a specific error message about an existing 'open NCLEX registration,' you allegedly passed. If it lets you re-register, you failed.
Does it actually work?
It worked historically for many students. In 2023-2026, Pearson has modified the system periodically and the trick is less reliable than it was. Some students still report it working; others report ambiguous results.
Risks of trying it
If you successfully re-register, you've paid the $200 NCLEX fee a second time. Refunds are possible but require contacting NCSBN/Pearson. Not all refund requests succeed.
Reasonable alternative
Pay $7.95 for Quick Results and have your real result in 48 hours. Lower cost, lower risk, same wait time as PVT becomes reliable.
