Writing a Nursing School Personal Statement That Works

Structure, what to include, what to avoid, specific examples.

Personal statements are tiebreakers. Don't waste them.

Structure

Hook (specific moment). Why nursing (specific, not generic). Why this program (research the program). Future goals (specific specialty interest). Brief close.

What to include

Specific patient interaction. Specific clinical exposure (CNA, EMT, volunteering). Specific skills you bring. Specific reason for this school.

Avoid

'I want to help people.' Childhood story without specific connection. Listing your resume (it's already in your application). Cliches ('I love caring for others').
