Second-Degree Nursing Programs
Career changers entering nursing: ABSN, direct-entry MSN, what to expect.
Career changers have options. ABSN and direct-entry MSN are most common routes.
Routes
ABSN (12-16 months): straightforward second BSN. Direct-entry MSN (24-36 months): become RN + advance to MSN or NP. Traditional BSN at community college: cheap, longer.
Considerations
Prereqs required (anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry, statistics) usually 12-24 months before starting. Some programs offer prereq courses; some require completion first.
