Top BSN Programs: What to Actually Look For
NCLEX pass rate, accreditation, clinical sites, cost, magnet affiliations.
Rankings are noisy. The criteria that actually predict your outcome are clearer.
NCLEX pass rate
90%+ first-attempt is the floor for a quality program. Most schools publish this on website or BON site.
Accreditation
CCNE or ACEN. Non-accredited programs can leave you ineligible for graduate school or federal loan forgiveness.
Clinical sites
Variety and quality. Major academic medical centers > small community hospitals for exposure breadth.
Cost
In-state public BSN: $20,000-50,000 total. Private/out-of-state: $80,000-200,000. Calculate total before signing.
Magnet hospital affiliations
Affiliated hospitals often hire from their nursing school. Worth considering for first job.
Frequently asked
Ranked schools really matter?
NCLEX pass rate matters. Ranking less so. Top-tier nursing schools don't pay differently to start.
