A Nursing School Study Schedule That Works

Concrete weekly study schedule with time blocks for content, questions, clinical prep.

An actual schedule, not vague advice. Adjust for your program's intensity.

Daily (Mon-Fri)

Morning: review yesterday's lecture notes (15-20 min). Evening: complete the day's reading, 10-15 NCLEX-style questions on the topic (60-90 min total).

Saturday

Deep dive: 3-4 hours on the week's hardest topic. Practice questions. Update study guide. Light prep for next week's lectures (skim).

Sunday

Off or light review. Burnout prevention. Plan the week ahead.

Pre-exam week

Bump weekday studying to 90-120 min. Add 1-hour mock-exam style session. Don't all-nighter, sleep matters.

Clinical day

Pre-clinical prep (1 hour) on patient's diagnoses, meds, expected interventions. Post-clinical reflection (15-20 min).

Frequently asked

Can I cram on weekends?

Possible but inefficient. Distributed practice retains better than massed.

Working part-time?

Cap at 15-20 hours/week. More than that, performance suffers.
